HippoTech Fallout – Update

I have some good news, and (as always with these things) some bad news.

First the good news.  Since I seem to be incapable of deleting email, I have ever in-world sale confirmation since 2007 sitting in my gmail account.  This includes the purchaser name and the item purchased so I can generate a list of who bought what.  The even better news is that CasperVend can import data and since it also handles the data format from the marketplace, once I get the imports done I think that anyone who bought a firing range in-world since 2007 or in the marketplace from 2010 (or had one gifted to them) will be able to visit the redelivery terminal in store (or go to the CasperVend website) and request an update.

So what’s the bad news?

First, if you bought a range on the marketplace (or its predecessor) before 2010, or on XStreet SL (remember that?) then I don’t have the data to add you to CasperVend.  I have to assume that’s going to be a small number of people though.

Second, there is still a lot of work to do before I can add the data:

  • I need to figure out how to get the data out of gmail.
  • I need to remove the HippoUpdate updater from all the ranges and replace it with something else.
  • I need to replace the gun and bow dispenser built into the ranges since it relies on HippoUpdate

That’s all going to take time, and I don’t have a lot of time in Second Life these days, so please bear with me.

If you happen to know anything that can help me out (How to get data out of gmail, or a grid-wide system where I can deliver objects to users – I don’t want to tie the weapon dispensers to a third party updater again) then please let me know either in world, in a comment below of via the contact form on this site (which should now be working again).
